Repentance in the season of Lent

In this season of Lent, I have been learning a lot about repentance. Repentance is more than confession or feeling sorry for what we have done. It is a commitment to turn away from it, to make a plan and do what it takes to not fall into that sin again. I am convicted that I often do not take this seriously, knowing that God is patient and His grace is endless, it’s easy to let sin continue so that His grace may abound.

In our life group we have an assignment this week to spend 30 minutes with God and focus on repentance. There are 4 steps we are to take :

1. Ask God to shine His light and help us to see things as they really are.
2. Take inventory of the sin in our lives using these scriptures, trusting that He will answer the prayer in step 1. Write down our           thoughts.
      a. The 10 commandments : Exodus 20:1-17
      b. Holy Spirit vs Sinful nature : Galatians 5:16-26
      c. Am I a loving person? : 1 Corinthians 13
3. Confess. Be honest with God and talk to Him about what He has revealed to us.
4. Repent. How can we think and act differently about this?

Repentance is a gift from God, it is a reset button for us. He will always accept us, forgive us and purify us. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
