Bridging
All too often you hear, “What’s in it for ME?”
That question daily hums inside you and ME.
Even in serving, “I hope someone noticed ME.”
Even in giving, it can still be about ME.
One of the lies begun in Eden’s garden,
“Look out for yourself, look out for number one.”
Now we’re curved in ourselves, as Lewis did say,
“When push comes to shove, I’ll do it my way.”
This paradox of life I’d be wise to heed:
The flower springs forth after the death of the seed.
What does it profit to gain the whole world,
Only to then forfeit my essence, my soul?
The trek to find myself will be so elusive.
To lose myself? It’s just not intuitive!
To gain real “life” means I first must lose it.
Lose my life for His sake? Eureka! I found it!
The world all around us, filled with so many needs,
There’s plenty of chances for you to sow seeds.
A smile, a kind word, or a thoughtful deed,
God’s word you may plant, perhaps someone will heed.
