This month I’m going to take a break from the “Biblical Virtues to Pray for Your Children” because I think the Lord has a different lesson for me this week…
“Dare to Trust God and bring others along” is the title of the Kids Church lesson this week. Seems like coincidental timing, doesn’t it? The past couple weeks and especially days have brought some confusion and lots of unknown into our daily lives. With the spreading of the Covid virus there is lots of fear and uncertainty. So I don’t think it’s an accident that Trusting God is the lesson for the kids this week. Have you been remembering that God is in control and worthy of our trust? We will be doing church online for a few weeks so instead of the Sunday School teachers sharing this lesson with the kids, the parents will be sharing it after watching a short video and leading a few discussion questions with their kids. What a timely lesson for parents to be able to lead their family by example in trusting God during a time like this and bring their kids along in trusting Him.
We all know that our children are watching and learning from how we live our lives and I believe this is a wonderful time for us to create a space in our family for deeper conversations, precious quality time and going deeper in our spiritual growth. Will your children hear conversations from you filled with fear and negativity? Or will they hear faith and trust, a positive message that we are in God’s hands and have nothing to fear. Will they see you scroll through news feeds and memes or will they see you reading God’s Word and spending time in prayer. If you don’t have children at home or your children are not old enough to understand, I think the Lord would still have us grow in the same way. My prayer is that we can find a way to change our thinking this week into trust in God and bring others along in that lifestyle of faith and trust.
Here are some discussion questions from the lesson to think over or talk with your family or a friend:
What is trust?
Who do you trust in your life? Share a personal example.
What are some things you want to know about someone before you trust them?
Does it feel risky to trust God sometimes? What does the Bible say about trusting Him? (Look up the word trust in the back of your Bible for help).
What do we know about God that can build our trust in Him? (If we are going to Dare to Trust Him, we must KNOW Him. He is REAL and GOOD. He is also Holy, True, Love, Unchanging and Eternal, Faithful, Merciful, Gracious, Just, All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Patient, and In Control- all reasons why I want to put my trust in Him!)
Here are additional verses to read and meditate on:
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways, submit to him and he will make your paths straight.
Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Thank you for reading- we are praying for you and your family this week!
