Ephesians 3:17-19
If you listen closely to your heart, you’ll hear yearnings for love.
- We yearn for a kind of love that loves us as we are (with our weaknesses), but sees the person we could become.
- We yearn for a kind of love that is strong enough to “secure” us but won’t let us stay where we are.
- We yearn for a kind of love is steadfast, unshakeable, especially on our bad days.
- We yearn for a kind of love that we’re sure will never give up on us and never walk away from us.
While the world places its hopes to experience this kind of love in people, no one can pull off that kind of love for very long. To expect someone to love like that is the epitome of “unlove” on our part. In addition, we set ourselves up for regular disappointment, as no person can love in the ways and to the extent we yearn for.
Listen to your yearnings for love, but then lift your heart to God as the only One who can love you to the extent and depth and height to which you yearn to be loved.
Ephesians 3:17 … so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
